Relaxing at Home: Your Staycation Guide

No matter what time of year it is, a staycation is an amazing way to decompress at home. Whether you have unused carryover days or you just need to break free from the office, spending time in the luxury of your own home can be incredibly restorative.

Think about what you love most about being on vacation and how you personally define paradise. How can you make your hometown the paradise you’ve been dying to visit?

If you’re still on the fence about “wasting” your time off at home, here are a few reasons to hop on the staycation trend:

Discover the Economical Choice of Relaxing at Home

Hotels and airfare are generally the largest expenses of any vacation. If your goal is to relax, you don't necessarily need to leave town to do so. Staying local will save you money!

Are you dreaming of laying on the beach? Why not go to a community pool or have a picnic at a local park? Fantasizing about having time to read for pleasure? Light some candles in your living room and dive into that romance novel.

If you didn't have to work all day and spend time commuting, what kinds of staycation activities could you do on your own turf? The possibilities are really endless!

Reinvent Yourself While Relaxing at Home

Sometimes, a few consecutive days of "me time" is all you need to recharge your battery. It's also a good opportunity to do something good for your health you've been wanting to try but haven't had the time for.

Considering using the time off to participate in a yoga class boot camp, do a 3-day juice cleanse, or try out a new healthy recipe.

Catch Up On Sleep: A Benefit of Relaxing at Home

Most of us don't get enough sleep at night. Sometimes, when we go away to explore a new place, we still miss out on sleep as we try to fit all the sightseeing possible into our stay. Not all vacations are relaxing, and sometimes we return home jetlagged right before we're supposed to return to work.

Staying at home is a great way to make sure you actually catch up on sleep during your time off. You can even enjoy a peaceful afternoon nap. Your body will thank you!

Experience Culture Shock Without Leaving Home

One of my favorite parts of traveling the world is experiencing new cultures and cuisines. Although you may not be able to speak Portuguese with a friendly Brazilian if you stay at home, what about trying that new Churrascaria?

Take this time to experience a new museum, park, or restaurant in your area that you've been meaning to visit.

Unplug Yourself and Truly Relax at Home

One of the best ways to decompress is to unplug. Take a break from texts and emails for a few days. You'll feel rejuvenated in no time.

It can be an incredible reset to be in your own home without feeling the pressures of work or the distraction of social media. You’ll feel rejuvenated in no time.

No Need to Pack: Enjoy a Stress-Free Staycation at Home

Enough said. No need to frantically dig through your drawers or waste money on travel-size toiletries. Everything you need to enjoy your time off is already exactly where you need it.

Just relax!

Quality Time With Loved Ones During Your Staycation at Home

One nice thing about relaxing at home is you can use the free time to catch up with friends or loved ones you normally don't get enough time with.

It's also a great way to spend some quality time with animal companions if you're a pet parent! No need to pay for a dog walker, cat sitter, or plant waterer either!

Just remember, the point here is to recharge, so don't feel pressured to fill up your days off with social obligations. This is your time. Spend it however you'd like!

Commit to the Relaxation of Your Staycation at Home

This isn’t the time to commit to stress-inducing obligations or take on that daunting task of re-carpeting the basement. In order for your respite from work to feel relaxing and rejuvenating, you must commit to relaxing. Summer is the perfect time for a staycation: you can get some fresh air, unplug yourself, catch up on sleep, or do whatever makes you feel restored.
