What Is Ayurveda? How to Balance Your Life Naturally

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

Whether you've never heard of Ayurveda or you know a bit about it but want to dive in deeper, you're in the right place.

Today we are going to explore the basics of this ancient system of wisdom and learn how it can make a positive difference in your life today.

What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda /äyərˈvādə/ is the science of longevity and life and has been actively studied and practiced for about five thousand years. In Sanskrit, āyus means life and Veda means knowledge. The science of Ayurveda is key if you are on a quest to live a long and healthy life.

If you are in your thirties or forties and health ailments are already a constant in your life, you may not be on the healthiest path. It may be time to consider making some shifts in your lifestyle. Ayurveda is a holistic approach that teaches how to balance your life and keep your health on track.

The Four Main Health Components of Ayurveda

Some of the main components of health in Ayurveda (there are four in total) may seem obvious, but I have a feeling at least one of them may surprise you. Let's break it down:

1. Physical Body – Our physical body is often the first thing that comes to mind when we think of health. If you have a broken arm or a fever, then you know you won't feel 100% like your best self.

2. Mind – I could have six-pack abs but if my mental health is suffering, then I'm not really thriving. Our culture has recently made some strides recently in acknowledging the importance of mental health. In the past, this component was pushed aside and not prioritized properly in our society. However, Ayurveda has been focusing on mental health for millennia.

3. Soul – Soul means our deeper connection to our purpose whether it is with the universe, spirit, or whatever you like to call it. Ayurveda recognizes the difference between matter we can see and touch and the sparks of life that we can't see, but can very much feel.

4. Senses – Our five senses are hearing, sight, smell, touch, and taste. When we aren't in tune with our senses, we can't properly perceive our surroundings and we may come to incorrect or negative conclusions. When you take care of your senses, you create an opportunity to perceive things in a positive light.

Ayurveda For Your Physical Body

From an Ayurvedic perspective, we need balanced waste products in order to be healthy. I'm talking about sweat, urine, and bowel movements. You should experience all three of these on a daily basis and if you don't, you'll need to investigate the underlying cause.

If you're curious about how to balance your life, there's no better place to start than getting your digestive system on track. Many medical experts refer to the gut as "the second brain" and its health is essential to your overall wellness.

Another aspect of Ayurvedic physical health is a healthy Dosha. Knowing your personal dosha and treating your body accordingly is an essential part of wellness. My personal archetype makes me prone to flakiness and clumsiness so if I don't balance myself properly, I could become overly anxious and scattered.

Ayurveda for Anxiety

I mentioned above that being mindful of dosha imbalances can help keep anxiety levels in check. It's true across the board that having a holistic approach to our health helps us feel less stressed and more grounded.

Having a healthy digestive system and a balanced dosha creates a sense of ease and well-being that helps us be true to ourselves and achieve our goals. If we are feeling aligned with our body, mind, soul, and senses, then we are not always wracked with anxiety. We can remain calm even in the face of difficult situations.

Take Action and Get the Balanced Life You Deserve

I often hear from clients that they don't have time to make meaningful lifestyle shifts. I then ask them, what do you not have time for? Your health? If you do not have your health, you do not have anything. If you do not have your health, you cannot show up as your best self and provide a substantial service to anyone or anything.

If you are someone who consistently treats the symptom without addressing the root cause; who mindlessly puts on cream for dry skin or takes medication for any ailment, I invite you to try a different approach.

Schedule a breakthrough call with me today and we'll talk about what Ayurveda can bring to your life. Living in tune with this ancient wisdom will improve your vitality, energy levels, and overall health. Your skin will look better, your menstrual cycle will become more stable, your migraines will go away, and so much more.
